With fame widely spread, during the performance of different yaagas satisfying
The Gods and the gods of the earth with fire-offering and befitting presentations
The king Janamejaya, the worthiest of all, with increasing wealth and praised by
The best of mankind, was reigning, treading in the paths followed by his ancestors.
The poem is in the Sanskrit meter known as “Utpala maala”
 yaaga : A ritual performed under the guidance of learned ascetics (who grained expertise under the guidance of their teachers ‘guru’) expert in conducting such performances as prescribed in the Veda, , with lot of devotion, for the benefit of the mankind and attended by hordes of people, the performance of which would continue for days together based on the type of yaaga that is performed.
 సుర ధారుణీసురామ్నాయము – Gods and the gods of the earth – means సుర the Gods of the heavens and ధారుణీసురామ్నాయము the group of persons belonging to the Brahman on earth.
 తన్పు [తనుపు] – to make them satisfied; to make them feel extremely happy.
 ఆది నరేంద్ర మార్గుడు – following in the foot-steps with devotion and implementing the best practices of reigning of the great kings who ruled prior to him.
